~Brightening the Night~

Brightstar waited in her den, her eyes glimmering, filled with worry. She was waiting for Nightlight, and knew he'd come. Even though she hurt him. "Oh, Nightlight..." she sighed. She thought she wouldn't have time for love, but... she loved him so much. She couldn't live without him.

"Brights-star?" his feeble voice got out.

Brightstar whipped around, seeing Nightlight, her eyes glimmering. Then they dimmed a bit at the site of Nightlight. He looked so heartbroken, so unkept. "Nightlight, I made a mistake..." The words held on her togue. "I... I love you, and I made a mistake before, turning down the future... Our future..."

He padded a little further in, his dead, Black and Silver ears hanging low as always. They perked up and the Silver on his fur glittered in the moonlight "I-I love you too" he sat down, waiting to see what she would do next.

Brightstar warmly looked up at Nightlight. "I missed you... on my way to moonstones." She choked out the words, holding back tears as the sudden image of all the cats from StarClan flooding over her. Patchstar, Ivoryleaf, her parents, her siblings... she couldn't hold back the tears and started crying. She ran forward, leaning up on Nightlight, her eyes shut, watery tears leaking.

Nightlight squealed but soon calmed down, "I-It'll be okay...I missed you too. I-I'm sorry for..everything I said..before" he coughed

Brightstar started to calm down, but tears still came. "Don't leave me," she begged him. She wouldn't let Nightlight go. Not tonight. Anyday but tonight.

"I'll never leave you" his face flsuhed red and waited for her response.

Brightstar didn't respond, only snuggled closer to Nightlight, the tears finally starting to fade in the warmth of Nightlight's fur. For the first time, she felt safe. She felt happy. And it was because she was finally rid of the burden of Nightlight, walking around, eyes dazed. Sad. She hadn't been able to look at the pain in his eyes when she came back.

"You should get some sleep" he mumbled.

Brightstar slowly pulled her head away from Nightlight's chest and looked at him, her eyes red from crying. She wiped the remaining tears with a gentle and led Nightlight to her nest, big enough to fit two cats, and kits. Perfect. "Can you stay with me tonight?" she choked out, sitting in her nest.

"Of course. Come on" he nudged her into the nest.

Brightstar layed down, taking in Nightlight's warmth, falling into a deep sleep.
