Petalkit just waiting

Petalkit awoke, the breeze of the outside world chilling her to the bone. Ever since she came to the clan, her dreams became more scary, more mind blowing, more depressing. Her chest was pulling in, and bursting out. Well, this isn't home, but it's better than what i'm used to. After a few seconds, she opened her eyes, looking around the nursery. It was so empty, and she was starting to miss being curled up by someone. What if.....NO! She shook the thoughts away. I know Leopardclaw, Frostfire, I haven't seen Squirrelstar, but she's one the clan talks about a lot, and I know Honeybird. Clan life isn't that easy then. How can I remember all those names? With that, she pushed herself though the entrance. All she saw was a small, dead looking camp, covered in mist. Not a sound in camp, or a shadow over the mist.

Birdflight sat on a rock at the entrance to camp, on guard duty for the night. He whipped his head around in surprise when he saw the kit. Patting the area next to him, he motioned her to come sit beside him.

Petalkit jumped up, and looked around. The noise took her by surprise. After she saw the new cat, She walked over and sat down, "So, what's your name?"

"Birdflight." The tom answered with a gentle purr. "Can't sleep?" He asked, wondering why she was awake.

"Not with all that's changed, and the breeze in the nursery." she said. How can he see in the mist?

Birdflight looked at the nursery. "I'll patch that up tomorrow." He mewed. "And Don't worry. You'll get used to things eventually. Just try to take it easy, and you'll survive." He added with a chuckle, though his eyes glowed with understanding. Suddenly he got an idea. "Would you like to explore a bit? Normally kits aren't allowed out of the camp, but if you're with a warrior it should be fine. I could show you the territory, so you'll be able to settle down easier knowing where you live and all." he offered with a smile.

Petalkit shrugged "If it's not a bother." she said. Honestly, she saw enough on her way there to know not much went on in this clan.

"Of course not." Birdflight mewed calmly. "Some times I really can't sleep either. Clan life can be rough at times, but being a warrior is rewarding, and I vowed to protect the clan with my life. one day you may do just that too."

"How do you remember the names," she asked. It seemed as if he could call the names of all cats by a glimpse of their fur.

"Well the longer you live in the clan, the more you come to know and bond with it's cats. Each cat looks and smells different from one another, as well as has a different voice and personality. Everyone is unique in their own special way, for instance you're special because of your wonderful and unique personality. To tell the truth, you're one of those cats I really enjoy talking to, even though I'm much older than you." Birdflight explained, looking a little embarrassed.

"Why enjoy talking to me? I'm the smallest of all the clan." she said out of fact. She wouldn't be like by the rest of the clan in a long time. The fact that she started out as a rouge didn't help either.

"Because you're different." Birdflight mewed, his eyes flashing with a mysterious wisdom. "Your backstory doesn't affect who you are. It's who you are now and who you plan to be. Tell me, what do you want to grow up to be?" He asked gently.

"I can't stay that long. I leave when Leopardclaw becomes leader. The only way I would stay is if I find a reason to stay." she replied. But if I could stay, I would try to keep the clans from fighting. The maker of peace...

"Ah but that does not interfere with your answer does it?" Birdflight corrected smoothly.

"It kind of does." she said a little confused.

"No. It may affect what you will be, but it does not affect what you want to be." He mewed. "Fate is something that can be changed you know."

"What I'll be? Nothing." she said. Not as long as I'm small.

"If that's how you want it." Birdflight shrugged. "I actually want to be leader one day." He mewed. "Not much out there that'll stop me from doing my best to achieve that goal."

Really? Sickness, old age, come on fill in the blanks." she said. As much as she didn't want to bring down Birdflight, she had to.

"Really." Birdflight answered. "Warriors are not weak. We can handle these things. If we die, then we still watch and guide our clanmates from starclan. There is nothing to regret in destiny. I do not fear the things that kill me, because they can only make me stronger(o3o Song reference). I look for the things that benefit me and strive towards them. Don't let those downsides hold you against your will." He mewed strongly, eyes flaming with passion as he watched the stars. "If you want to live a good life, don't think about the bad things. Think about the benefits of life."

Petalkit looked down at her paws, silent.

Birdflight looked at her with gentle, warm eyes. "I didn't mean to sound rough for a moment there." He whispered after a few silent moments.

"It's not that. You're fine." she said with a sigh.

"What's wrong?" He murmured. "You seem...down all of the sudden." He wrapped his warm awesomely-fluffy tail gently around her, like a father sort of. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

She grew a little stiff when she felt his tail, not long enough for him to notice though "I won't then." she replied.
